Oh wow, I had an Optiplex that looked like that, I think it was a 100 MHz Pentium, that I bought for $100, put Linux v.2.1 and two ethernet cards in, and used as a router/gateway for three or four years. The only time I ever restarted it was when the power went off at my house for so long that the UPS battery went dead. This was way back when you couldn't just buy something like that off the shelf at Office Depot.

Give it another 10 seconds; it'll crash.

Our first computer was some kind of 286 that I don't remember the details of, which was replaced by a 286 clone that got upgraded to an overclocked 486 - I think it was an SX 33Mhz that had been overclocked to ~40. Around that time, we had for a brief while a common unit Compaq - kind of like a PS/1, but a 386 with color screen and built in floppy.
(PS/1 shown, since it was apparently too obscure a Compaq for me to even find)

A friend of mine has a collection of those Optiplexes (3 desktops and a tower). The tower cases are some of the nicest that Dell has used, in my opinion.
My aunt and my grandparents had monitors like that with their XPS T500s, the UltraScan M991. They were basically Sony Trinitron CRTs, and were very nice as a result.

That's awesome, but right now I'm in love with my brand new XPS8700 SE... This thing's so powerful it's scary :D

My lab in high school was made up of OptiPlexes. GXa or GX1 models I believe. We had one set up as a dedicated Quake II deathmatch server

Nice! But, SSD?

Yeah... It was the only option available, even though I've seen lots of people who dislike SSDs. I don't really know how they compare to HDDs, other than that they're supposedly more expensive, have less space, but run faster. Since I never even got close to filling up the 500 gb on my old Dell, I figured I might not much more than 1 tb anyways, so I decided to give it a shot.

My school's computer labs had these:

I remember in the mid-90s when my school switched from Apple ]['s to Power Mac 5000s. By the time I got to high school, the lab was full of "Baseline" computers, a brand I've never encountered again. The logo was a knight chess piece.
